This full-day tour covers several important historical sites in the Sacred Valley, starting from Cusco. The itinerary is designed to provide an overview of the region’s significance during the Inca period, focusing on archaeological centers, local markets, and traditional towns. The trip shows examples of Inca architecture, urban planning, and agricultural methods.

The day begins with a morning pickup from your hotel in Cusco. The route travels north into the valley, with initial stops at the markets in Qorao and Pisaq, where local artisans sell their goods. The tour then proceeds to the Pisaq archaeological site, which features extensive agricultural terraces and stone buildings. Lunch is provided in the town of Urubamba.

In the afternoon, the tour continues to the town and archaeological site of Ollantaytambo, a well-preserved example of an Inca settlement. The final stop is Chinchero, visited on the way back to Cusco. This village is known for its remaining Inca walls and a colonial-era church built on Inca foundations. The tour ends with the return trip to Cusco in the early evening.

Highlights

  • Visit the typical market in Qorao to see local crafts. This is a great place to find unique handmade textiles, ceramics, and other souvenirs directly from the artisans. The market is less touristy than others and offers a more authentic glimpse into local life.
  • See the agricultural terraces and Inca constructions at the Pisaq archaeological site. The massive terraces carved into the mountainside are a testament to the Incas’ engineering prowess. You can also explore the religious and military sectors of the site, which offer stunning views of the valley below.
  • Eat a buffet lunch in the town of Urubamba. Urubamba is considered the heart of the Sacred Valley. Lunch here is a chance to taste a wide variety of Peruvian dishes, including local specialties, in a relaxing setting.
  • Walk through the streets and fortress of the Inca town of Ollantaytambo. Ollantaytambo is unique because it’s one of the few places where the original Inca urban layout is still preserved. The fortress, a major Inca stronghold, features impressive stone temples and a complex system of terraces.
  • See the combination of Inca and colonial architecture in Chinchero. Chinchero is known for its traditional weaving community and the impressive stone wall built by the Inca Tupac Yupanqui. The colonial church, built on the foundations of an Inca palace, is a striking example of the blend of cultures. You can also participate in a weaving demonstration to learn about the traditional techniques used to create vibrant textiles.
